EDUCATION CARE
India is the 2nd most populous country with 142 Crores population has 8.9 % belonging to tribal communities which is around 12.6 Crores. As per Government statistics around 50% of tribal women are illiterate and and the school drop out rate is also high among the tribals. To improve the scenario ITCT has been working from day 1 in the education sector by making education accessible to all, improve the quality of education and reduce the drop out rate.
One of the main instrument is the Pathshala concept, which we have opening in tribal dominated villages so that more and more tribal children have access to quality education in their villages. At the beginning of 2023, we have opened 65+ more pathshalas in 60 new villages.
We are also running 18 schools across 4 states. Regular teachers training program are organised the improve the teaching quality of teachers. Poor tribal children are provided scholarships to support their desire to learn and reduce dropout rate.
BHAKTIVEDNATA NATIONAL SCHOOL
When India Tribal Care Trust was expanding its development activities across the northeastern states of Tripura, the Education department of Tripura state government approached ITCT to run some of its schools that were already closed due to lack of students or on the verge of closure. After thorough inspection by the secretary of the trust, Sridhar Panigrahi, ITCT signed MoU with the education department of state Government and took over 20 schools. Most of these schools were lacking basic infrastructure and the classrooms were also not usable. ITCT renovated these schools to make them usable for primary school children , appointed new teachers, ayah and support staff to take proper care of the children.
At present 14 of these schools are running in different districts of Tripura where not only tribal students but also students from non-tribal communities are also studying.
